Place History: Avenue 50 and other Eastside havens from gentrification

In advance of the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books, the LA Times has put together a wonderful guide, Lit City: The Everything Guide to Literary Los Angeles, for you to get to know what the LA literary scene is all about. We’re grateful to the brilliant and always gracious Vickie Vértiz for writing about the legendary Avenue 50 Studio (and helm Kathy Gallegos) for “Place History: Avenue 50 and other Eastside havens from gentrification”.

Aside from being a place where our director, Jessica Ceballos y Campbell, has curated poetry programming, Avenue 50 Studio is also a place many of us call our poetry home. And now a place Alternative Field has found a home in. And of course, thanks to Vickie for bringing our efforts into the light as well. Enjoy reading about our history in Literary LA.
